Hi from California: I am at a point in my life where I am making a career change that I have thought about for years. I started teaching math part-time at the local adult school one night a week two years ago. This has always been something I wanted to do but never had the time. Since I plan to retire from my current job in the near future I decided to take the step and start teaching. I know I can do a better job teaching than I am doing now and hope to apply as much as I can out of the classes here at UOP. I spent several years in the military during the 1960's and shortly after returning home I met my wife, Irene and we got married. She encouraged me to go to college and I have basically been learning ever since. It has been difficult at times with family, children, work and other distractions, but it always seems to work out. I owe my wife of 35 years everything and she is my biggest supporter. I also have two grown daughters, and three grandchildren, ages 9, 3, and 6 months old. My wife and I live in the mountains and I commute to the city on Mondays and return on Fridays. I have enjoyed running for the last 18 years, but more recently have switched to cycling. The beautiful mountains all around us provides a great workout and the mountains present a good challenge to climb. Two years ago I did a 605 mile ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles in 7 days which was challenging and a lot of fun. I find that physical exercise tends to clear the head and you feel great after a strenuous workout. Now I am excited about the mental workout we will be going through over the next six weeks. I enjoy team assignments and look forward to contributing to the assignments. It's rewarding seeing all of the work come together into a product that you are proud to submit to the facilitator and class. I have do not have a problem taking on any role within the team. Tom
